  1. Series of low-budget British comedies with an
  2. emphasis on the unsubtle double entendre;
  3. they were probably the most successful film
  4. run in postwar Britain. The first was Carry
  5. on Sergeant 1958 and the series continued for
  6. 20 years with titles like Carry on Nurse,
  7. Carry on Spying, Carry on Screaming, and
  8. Carry on Doctor. All were produced by Peter
  9. Rogers and directed by Gerald Thomas. Most
  10. were written by either Norman Hudis or Talbot
  11. Rothwell. Regular stars included Kenneth
  12. Williams, Charles Hawtrey, Sid James, and
  13. Joan Sims.
